Hundertwasser's paintings
Here are two examples of Hundertwasser's paintings.
How does the artist use colour to illustrate the time of day?
What emotions or feelings do the colours used bring out in you?
Discussion 2 – Telling a story
Think about what part of the city each painting is set in and who might live or work in this part. Are there any places you have been that look like those in the paintings and reflect on the people you saw here. Write a short imaginative piece of writing that describes a day in the life of someone who may live here. Don't forget to describe what they look like, their characteristics and anything that shows how interesting they maybe.
Hundertwasser's buildings
Here are two examples of Hundertwasser's buildings:
Discussion 3 – Paintings and buildings
Look closely at these pictures. Can you find two things in common between Hundertwasser's paintings and his artwork on the buildings?
Discussion 4 – People and buildings
How do you think these buildings make the people who live or work in them feel?
Consider if you would want to live or work in one of them and share your feelings in the discussion.
Discussion task for all
Hundertwasser designs his art in three different ways:
- he may make a drawing
- he sometimes paints directly onto a photograph
- sometimes he will make a scale model and paint it.
Discussion 5 – Your own artwork in the style of Hundertwasser
Choose a building that you know. It could be your house or school.
Pick one of the methods that Hundertwasser uses and design a piece of artwork in that style to go on that building.
You may want to:
- use a photograph to paint directly onto
- download an image from the Internet to paint onto
- take an image out of a magazine.
Remember to give your work a title. Scan it, or take a digital photo of it, and then upload it onto the discussion board.
